National Voters Day, a day that celebrates the democracy of the nation. Being a voter is a matter of pride, everyone should understand it. This day is all about fascinating the voters towards their rights and their participation to build a powerful nation.
Why Government Initiated For “National Voters Day”
By the years 2010-11, Congress Government set up a meeting of Union Cabinet. The chairperson of the meeting was Mr. Manmohan Singh, PM of that time. In the meeting, they concluded the meeting, with the remark of less new voter registration. The new generation, who completed their age of 18 years, were showing very less interest towards elections and casting their votes. Hardly 20-25 percent of youngsters registered themselves as a new voter.
National Voters Day Date And A Root To Decide That
Adding the initiative in this reference, EC (Election Commission) decided to look and find the new voters impetuously. They identify every new voter, who complete their 18 years of age by every January 1. Since our Republic Day, the ‘Constitution of India’ came into force on 26 January 1950. Just a day before, on 25th January 1950, The Election Commission was established in accordance with that Constitution. EC has participated in each exercise for registering and finding voters. This was a time to give an appreciation and note down the efforts of Election Commission. National Voters Day is celebrated across the nation on 25th January of every year. Therefore, it is actually the foundation day of Election Commission.
Other Added Factors And Feathers Of National Voters Day
National Voters Day is all about motivating and empowering the youths. Civilians enroll as a voter and make themselves eligible to participate in Election. 25th January is the date when every voter gets their Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC). This inspires the youth to exercise their rights for a democratic country. The new voters will receive the card with the badge and logo of “Proud to be a voter – Ready to vote”.
Election commission is trying to increase people’s participation in the electoral process simultaneously. Therefore, Election Commission of India adopted SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) strategy in 2009. This influenced a range of policy initiatives, programmes and activities.
That’s a great initiative! Increasing participation in the electoral process is crucial for a healthy democracy. National Voters Day Theme For The Year 2024
The auspicious day has a theme for every year. This year is the 14th year of Voters’ Day. “ ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure’ was the theme of this year’s national voter’s day, 2024. The Day is celebrated at every polling station across the country to make the importance of voting.
On 25th January 2024, Our PM, Mr. Narendra Modi requested for with his tweet,
“I urge all the eligible voters, particularly youngsters, to register themselves and strengthen our democracy with their participation. The power of a vote is immense.”
The main purpose is to persuade voters towards the nation. In view to increase the participation of civilians for election, Election Commission and Facebook announced for a new feature. This feature will send reminders to the users, for the pledge to vote. This reminder is only for the people, who are eligible to vote. Click on the “Take the Pledge” button, you’ll see the Election Commission’s FB page. Here, you will be eligible to take the required pledge. They both (EC and FB) have collaborated in 2024. This will be a great opportunity for Election Commission so that it can reach to more and more voters.
