Who said what on One Nation One Election Bill 2024
- Before the bill was introduced, Congress MP Manish Tiwari said that it is against the basic structure of the Constitution. India is a union of states. You cannot reduce the tenure of the Legislative Assemblies. The basic principle of federalism is that the Center and the State are equally entitled in the Constitution. How can you make the tenure of state assemblies subject to the tenure of Parliament? • At the same time, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that one country, one election is like centralizing the power. The Constitution was discussed for two days in the Lok Sabha, it is still going on in the Rajya Sabha. In such a situation, the attack on the Constitution is unfortunate. The central government wants to increase its power by tampering with the election process.
