Karhal By-Election : BJP’s move has created panic in SP. BJP has made Anujesh Yadav, son-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav, its candidate. Now uncle and nephew will face each other on Karhal seat.
Karhal assembly seat is adjacent to Saifai. Mulayam family dominates this seat. BJP has won elections here only once, in 2002. This time BJP has fielded Anujesh Yadav, a relative of the Saifai family, due to which the contest has become interesting.

BJP has given ticket to Anujesh Yadav, son-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav and real brother-in-law of MP Dharmendra Yadav, for the by-election to be held on Karhal seat in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. After the announcement of the ticket, the hustle and bustle in the political circles has intensified. Here BJP is in direct competition with Saifai family. In such a situation, BJP has fielded a relative of the Saifai family. This time BJP has fielded Anujesh Pratap Yadav, son-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav (husband of niece Sandhya Yadav).
This is the political journey of Anujesh Yadav
Anujesh is the brother-in-law of MP Dharmendra Yadav. Dharmendra Yadav’s sister Sandhya alias Baby Yadav has been the District Panchayat President from Mainupari from 2015 to 2020. Anujesh has also been a District Panchayat member from Firozabad during the same tenure.
Preparations are going on for by-elections on 9 assembly seats of UP on November 13. Karhal assembly seat is adjacent to Saifai village of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. SP has dominated this area since the time of Mulayam Singh Yadav. The entire Saifai family is considered to have deep roots here. SP has won this seat six times in the seven assembly elections held from 1993 to 2022, while BJP has won only once in the year 2002.
Talking about Saifai family, for the first time in the year 2022, SP President Akhilesh Yadav became MLA from here. This is the second time that a member of the family has been made a candidate in the Karhal assembly elections. This seat has become vacant after Akhilesh Yadav was elected MP from Kannauj and SP chief’s nephew Tej Pratap Yadav has been made a candidate in the by-election.

Anujesh Yadav’s mother has been MLA twice
To save its stronghold in the by-elections, the Samajwadi Party is laying the caste-based chessboard. SP is invincible in the last four elections in Karhal assembly seat, which has a majority of Yadav voters. This time, due to the challenge from BJP and its candidate Anujesh Yadav, the party is not ready to take any risk. Anujesh Yadav is a relative of the Saifai family. His mother has been MLA twice. He is considered to have influence over a large area of Karhal.
SP trying to get votes of other castes also
BJP is using its full strength to steal Yadav votes. In such a situation, SP is working on a strategy to save its Yadav vote bank and get the support of other castes. For this, area-wise responsibilities have been assigned to leaders of different castes. Plans have also been made for frequent visits of many leaders.
Shakya voter is second after Yadav
Karhal assembly seat is called the stronghold of SP. Yadav voters are the highest in this assembly constituency, whose number is around 1.25 lakh. At second place are Shakya voters, whose number is around 40 thousand. Kshatriya and Jatav voters are around 30-30 thousand. The number of Pal-Dhangar voters is between 25 to 30 thousand. Brahmin and Muslim voters are said to be 15 thousand each. The voters of Katheria community and Lodhi community are said to be around 18-18 thousand.
