BJP announces its first list of 29 candidates for Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. Key battles include Pravesh Verma against Arvind Kejriwal and Ramesh Bidhuri against Atishi.
Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 - Pravesh Verma will contest against Kejriwal, Bidhuri against Atishi; 29 names in BJP's first list; 7 leaders from AAP-Congress get tickets
The first list of BJP candidates has released for the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections. There are 29 names in the list. Out of these, 7 leaders have recently left AAP and Congress and joined BJP.
In the first list, the party has again given tickets to most of the candidates who got tickets in the last assembly elections. In the list of 29 candidates, 13 candidates have been repeated, while tickets of 16 have been changed.
At the same time, the ticket of the current MLA Anil Bajpai from Gandhinagar has been cut. In his place, former state president Arvinder Singh Lovely, who came to BJP from Congress, has been given the ticket.
Pravesh Verma will contest against Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi. Ramesh Bidhuri has been fielded against CM Atishi from Kalkaji. Congress has given ticket to Alka Lamba on this seat.
The dates for the assembly elections in Delhi are going to be announced soon. In its first list, BJP has announced candidates for 6 of its 8 current seats.
Aam Aadmi Party has announced candidates for all 70 seats. Congress has also fielded 48 candidates in three lists so far.
In BJP's first list, 4 leaders Kailash Gehlot, Rajkumar Anand, Kartar Singh and ND Sharma from AAP have been given place. At the same time, confidence has also been expressed in 3 leaders from Congress. Ashish Sisodia has been made candidate from Tilak Nagar, Jagdish Yadav from Shakarpur and Santosh Gehlot from Gandhi Nagar.
Apart from this, 2 party MPs Pravesh Sahib Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri have been given tickets.
Negi, who gave a tough fight to Sisodia, gets ticket again Ravindra Singh Negi, who gave a tough fight to former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on the Patparganj assembly seat, has been given a ticket again this time. Negi is currently a corporation councilor. This time he will challenge AAP candidate Awadh Ojha from the Patparganj seat.
BJP has fielded Pravesh Verma from New Delhi seat against former CM Arvind Kejriwal, while Congress has fielded Sandeep Dixit. In this way, former CM Kejriwal will face sons of two former CMs. Pravesh Verma is the son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma, while Sandeep Dixit is the son of former CM Sheila Dixit.
For the Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had announced all the candidates on December 15. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will contest from New Delhi. CM Atishi has been made a candidate from Kalkaji. Saurabh Bhardwaj will contest from Greater Kailash, Satyendra Jain from Shakur Basti.
AAP announced the names of 70 candidates in a total of 4 lists in 25 days between 21 November and 15 December. This time the tickets of 26 sitting MLAs have been cut. The seats of 4 MLAs have been changed.
Among these, Manish Sisodia's seat has been changed from Patparganj to Jangpura, Rakhi Bidlan's from Mangolpuri to Madipur, Praveen Kumar's from Jangpura to Janakpuri and Durgesh Pathak's seat from Karawal Nagar to Rajendra Nagar.
Congress Mahila Morcha National President Alka Lamba will contest from Kalkaji seat against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. General Secretary of Congress KC Venugopal announced her name on Friday. Congress has so far announced the names of 48 candidates in 3 lists for the Delhi Assembly elections.
It had 21 names. The second list was released on 24 December. It had 26 names. Congress has given ticket to Farhad Suri from Jangpura seat. AAP's Manish Sisodia is contesting from here. Haji Mohammad Ishraq Khan has been fielded against AAP's Gopalrai from Babarpur seat.
The current term of Delhi Assembly is ending on 23 February 2025. The Election Commission may announce the election dates in the second week of January. The last assembly elections were held in February 2020, in which the Aam Aadmi Party won an absolute majority and won 62 out of 70 seats.
