Lakhimpur Lok Sabha in Assam has been included among those constituencies where the by poll session will be conducted as per the notification of Election Commission of India (ECI). The vacant seat of Lakhimpur is a Parliamentary constituency. The poll was held on 19th of November 2016. The Returning Officer announced that there have been five nominations and all of them have been selected as the participating candidates. One of the candidates is of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Congress Party and Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI- M) each. The other two candidates are independent ones. The battle is expected to be a strong fight between BJP and Congress party. Both of them are ready to thrash each other so that their popularity and power can be displayed. The state of Assam is being ruled by BJP so the party evidently desires to retain its position in the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha Bye Election poll as well. On the other hand, the congress party is not in a mode to lose such a chance to weaken the BJP in the state of Assam.

A special training programme has been provided to the police officers for the by poll conduct. This training includes information relevant to polling booths, voters and voting machines. The voters will be explained about voting method and also about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The surveillance team will be vigilant and ready to take strong steps against any illegal activity.
The State Election Commission (SEC) of Assam is vigilant so that fair and smooth election session can be held in the Lakhimpur constituency. The political parties are being instructed to refrain themselves from any unethical or inequitable activity that may influence the by election session in an adverse way.
