The major parties in the state of Uttar Pradesh are the ruling party Samajwadi Party (SP), BJP, Bahuajan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress party. However, this by election may be considered as a triangular competition between BJP, SP and Congress. BSP is unlikely to be part of Bilari/ Jangipur Vidhan Sabha Bye Poll Election session.
The Bilari by poll Election can prove to be litmus test to the ‘Dalit programme’ initiated by Congress party. BJP has fielded a Muslim candidate for Bilari Vidhan Sabha Constituency. Same has been followed by the Samajwadi Party. The Congress party has taken a different way. It has batted a Dalit candidate who was earlier a BSP worker. In the previous election held in the year 2012, Congress resolved not to participate in the election and left it for its then alliance party, Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD).
Samajwadi Party is aiming to retain its seats and this can be seen by the election campaign which has been started by the party. On the other hand, BJP has switched on its attacking mode with the same mode adopted by Congress.
